Hi everyone
Thanks for all your good wishes and support for Sunshine Brass. We played our best ever programme, but were pipped at the post by Toowoomba Municipal Band! Photos to follow.
Best regards

Hi Everyone
Greetings from the Australian winter (28C yesterday).
I'm keeping up with the band on the website and glad you are having a great summer season.
Sorry I missed the free beer at Tony's party, but I'm trying to make up for it here.
Keeping my lip in at Sunshine Brass, checkout www.qba.org.au/sunshinebrass/ especially the first baritone player!!
Hope you're keeping a seat for me from February.
Best regards
Bryan Griffin

I would like to thank the band members who went to great effort to attend our party at Perran on Saturday. I know the effort you all went to, to be here. It was the icing on the cake, to see the faces of Tony and my parents when you started up, and appeared around the corner, something money cannot buy.... you were all fantastic. There have been many comments of what a lovely afternoon it was, but I think it was summed up when one of my Mums friends said, “All that was missing was the tea treat bun!”

Once again a big Thank You, as it was an afternoon that someone said – She will remember for ever, (she is 80+ years, so the memory doesn’t have long to go!!!)

I hope the pig and dessert were worth your efforts!

Best wishes

Hi all, can`t thank you all enough for the wonderful surprise yesterday, such a shame that the current Mrs Richards wasnt well enough to grace us with her presence. (she a little bit better today). my mother and father were very grateful to  you all especially your rendition of New York New York .I also didnt know that you lot were so devious, being able to keep such a secret from Dee and I, it was absolutely brilliant

Thank you all x

On behalf of Gweek Parish Council, I would like to thank Gweek Silver Band for playing for the Remembrance Parade and Service again this year. Members of the Parish Council congratulated the Band at the Council meeting held last night, on its performances last Sunday. Thank you, once again.

On behalf of the Mission Church, and all those who attended the Remembrance Service, we would like you to know how much your march and attendance meant to us. The wreath laying, the Last Post and the silence were very poignant, and the hymns were so uplifting. Thank you all for all you do for us. With all good wishes.

Hello. Just a quick note to say how well the band sounded on St Ives Pier. I thoroughly enjoyed it even though my girls were a bit noisy in parts, but that's open air music for you. I am in the 4th picture from the day helping my youngest dance to the music.

Hopefully see you again next year.

Mark Bodenham, Bb Bass, City of Bristol Band

All of the shooters have asked me to pass on their thanks to the band for playing at the shoot. They said it was nice to see what they help to support, even in a small way. So would you please pass on their thanks. It was much appreciated.

A big thank you to all members of the band who took part in our Midsummer Festival. Having a brass band lead our procession makes the day that extra bit special. We would be thrilled if you could join us again next year.

We recently had an email from Mike Dale in Reading. He was a member of the band in 1954 and was delighted to find our website. He went to school with Peter Searle and remembers Brian Branch and many of the people in our archive photos. He sent this lovely message:

Congratulations to the band on its recent achievements – that is great to hear, especially in these austere and tough days and knowing the Gweek Silver Band not only survives, but prospers. Long may it continue.”

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Just wanted to say congratulations on your success yesterday. Good to hear Gweek Band is doing well again

Concert at St Ives West Pier 27 September 2009

I was lucky enough to hear you on the West Pier on this gorgeous, sunny afternoon, whilst on holiday in St Ives. The ambition and accomplishment of the Band simply boggled me. It truly made my afternoon to be able to wander down from my self-catering eyrie to the Pier and listen at close quarters to such a wealth of wonderful tunes, beautifully arranged for a band such as yours, and so magnificently and enthusiastically executed. Thank you so much!

A happy new year to you all. In the early 1940s I lived at Mellanoweth Farm with Tom and Beatrice Mitchell and at that time the band room was a little higher up the road, and I used to go and listen to them practice and one of the pieces they played was Bandology, do you still play this piece.?

Would you kindly pass on my regards to Billy Orchard, I knew him as a little boy when coming to Gweek for holidays. I have many happy memories of times past when I lived there. Hoping for a reply sometime.

Peter Dickman,

Gweeks bearing gifts!

Gweek Silver Band recently entered their first contest for many years at the Truro contest and came away with runners up prize in the ungraded section.

They also picked up the prize as the best Cornish band, and a 3rd in the 4th section. Solo cornet Linda Lee also received the best instrumentalist award.
The band, based on the Helford river in Cornwall, was one of many bands struggling to stay afloat, but has gradually got itself back to full strength thanks largely to bandmaster Tony Richards.
Secretary Jane Rutter told 4BR: "Everyone looks forward to practise night and is enthusiastic about the future."

Hi all. Just thought I'd have a look at your site, being a past member.

I thought the band sounded the best I had heard them in a long time. Keep it up!!

As an ex Porthleven Town Band player (and sometimes guest player on Flora Day!) I still follow the fortunes of local bands in West Cornwall. It’s great to see that Gweek Silver Band is riding high once again. Congratulations to Tony and all the band.
